Flowers are witnesses to our lives. They are often in attendance at our most joyful occasions as well as during our deepest sadness. My current investigations have begun to move from the romanticism earlier pursued focusing on the sinuous shapes of the flowers I have painted. I am now searching out that deeper emotional bond that I have shared with those same wing-like shapes that I discovered as a child while questioning my own indulgent need to perfect them. My investigations begin the same way that I discovered my first orchid in a pile of bark mulch; by engulfing the entire canvas in various colors of soil and bark, eventually pulling out hidden botanical shapes and adding the colors of the emotions I feel. This discovery and truth about botany has been a beautiful and mysterious part of my life since childhood. That bond is what continues to fuel my research into uncovering their meaning.
